A New Year’s Wedding to Remember

Celebrating Luisa + Justin’s 1-Year Anniversary

As an event planner, I thrive on creating experiences that shake up the traditional wedding mold. When Luisa and Justin reached out to me with their unique vision for a New Year’s Eve wedding, I was thrilled. Their wedding plans were unlike anything I’d done before, and their chosen venue—the historic Selina Miami River—set the stage for an unforgettable celebration.

The Venue: Selina Miami River

Nestled in the heart of Miami, Selina Miami River is a true gem. With its roots tracing back to 1898, it holds the oldest recorded hotel license in Miami's history. The property beautifully blends the charm of the past with modern amenities, featuring pastel-colored 1920s Old-Florida-style bungalows and lush gardens. It was the perfect setting for a weekend that celebrated love, family, and fun.

A Weekend to Remember

The festivities kicked off on Friday with a casual, fun-filled day. Family and friends gathered for a BBQ, poolside relaxation, and spirited team games like tug-of-war. It was the ideal way to set the tone for the weekend: laid-back, joyful, and full of love.

Saturday morning began with a serene garden yoga session led by a close friend of the couple. With Miami’s weather blessing us with a crisp 60-degree morning, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Luisa and Justin spent the day getting ready surrounded by their loved ones, savoring every moment.

Before the evening festivities began, Luisa and Justin shared a private vow reading—a beautifully intimate moment that allowed them to connect and reflect before the whirlwind of the night. Family photos followed, ensuring everyone could fully enjoy the evening without interruption. The couple even carved out time for a private listening session on the dance floor, champagne in hand, soaking in the calm before the celebration.

The Main Event

Guests arrived at 8:00 PM to the vibrant sounds of a mariachi band during cocktail hour. As the mariachi music faded, a drumline entered with a high-energy performance, leading everyone into the reception. The party officially started at 10:00 PM with the iconic “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, setting the tone for a night to remember.

At 11:30 PM, we slowed things down, inviting guests to take their seats as a cello and violinist duo began to play. The ceremony commenced at 11:45 PM, orchestrated to perfection. Luisa and Justin each walked in individually to their ceremony, joining hands as they stepped onto the platform to get married. An LED screen displayed a countdown, ensuring the officiant pronounced, “You may kiss the bride!” right at midnight. As Luisa and Justin sealed their union with their first kiss of 2024, cold sparks lit up the night, and “Pepas” by Farruko reignited the dance floor.

Late-Night Delights

The florals for the wedding were provided by Luisa’s mother, who lovingly arranged them in repurposed Oui yogurt glasses for tealights and boxed water containers. This thoughtful touch reflected Luisa and Justin’s desire to repurpose items they use daily. To keep the energy high, we passed out paletas as a refreshing midnight snack. The party continued until 3:00 AM, with guests dancing and celebrating into the early hours of the new year. Luisa and Justin’s wedding was a true reflection of their personalities: vibrant, joyful, and full of life.

Reflecting on Their Day

Luisa and Justin chose to do everything their way, and it was an absolute honor to help bring their vision to life. As I always tell my clients: it’s YOUR day. Do what makes YOU happy, and I’ll be there to guide and support you every step of the way.

Happy Anniversary, Luisa + Justin!
